The Along French Pyrenees route offers spectacular views of high mountain peaks, rugged slopes, vast valleys and picturesque villages. The challenging climbs and breathtaking descents attract many motor enthusiasts and keen cyclists (inspired by the Tour de France), but of course you can also just go by car.
This very varied tour scores five stars. Especially for the driving pleasure, that you get on these challenging mountain roads, alternated with fantastic views, on the villages, their location on hills, waterfalls, mountain tops.
Special feature:
Be aware that petrol stations are few and far between here. The nearest pump is about 15 kilometres from your starting point, in Castillon-en-Couserans. The fuel stop included in your route is not reached until 35 kilometres later.

Before starting the journey from Saint-Lary, a visit to the local Saint-Hilaire church is recommended. The interior surprises with the flamboyant character of the baroque decoration: colorful ornaments and frescoes, ornate moldings and columns invoice. As a result, the church is a small jewel of heritage.
Curious to explore the next town, Saint-Beat? Then take a walk to the Romanesque church of Saint-Béat-Saint-Privat, which dates back to the 12th century. Listed as a historical monument, it features a tomb housing the relics of Saint Beatus and Saint Privat.
Don't miss the white marble quarry, known as the Roman breccia, which has been in use since Roman times. Blue turquoise marble is also mined here. Across the Garonne is the Moulin des Arts, dating from the 16th century. Today, the fully restored mill functions as an ecomuseum and cultural centre.
On the approach to Cierp you can finally fill up your tank at the local Intermarché and take the road to Bagnières-de-Luchon, the 'queen of the Pyrenees', where you can fill yourself up with coffee. It is a renowned spa with 'life in the brewery'. In addition, the place is also known for the ski resort Superbagnières, which is located on the territory of the nearby municipality of Saint-Aventin, but can be reached directly from Luchon by gondola.
Beyond Luchon, the Great Enjoyment begins: the Route des Cols offers spectacular views of high mountain peaks, green valleys, vast valleys and picturesque villages. The challenging climbs and breathtaking descents attract many motor enthusiasts and keen cyclists (inspired by the Tour de France), but of course you can also just go by car.
Halfway through this magnificent walk, you will arrive at La Mongie, the ski resort of Bagnières-du-Bigorre for lunch, perhaps combined with a lift ride to the Pic du Midi, which starts at the large car park. A 15-minute cable car ride from the Domaine du Tourmalet ski area will take you to the Pic du Midi, a legendary peak classified as a "Grand Site de Midi-Pyrénées". At an altitude of 2,877 metres, you will find an astronomical observatory, the highest museum in Europe and, unsurprisingly, a breathtaking panorama of the mountain range from here.
After lunch, the Route des Cols continues. You climb to one of the highest passes in the Pyrenees, the Col du Tourmalet, and then descend to yet another spa: Luz-Saint-Sauveur. Hot springs have been exploited since the end of the 19th century. The village of Luz-Saint-Sauveur has an architectural gem: the fortified church of Saint-André, built in the 12th century, then fortified in the 14th century by the Hospitaliers of Saint-Jean-de-Jerusalem. This beautiful building with the allure of a castle, flanked by two towers, has a polygonal defensive wall with battlements. The magnificent interior has wood carvings from the 18th century.
You are here in the heart of the most famous areas of the Pyrenees: Gavarnie, Pic du Midi, Cauterets, Pont d'Espagne and Lourdes. From Luz many trips are possible: the National Park of the Pyrenees, the Néouvielle massif, the summer pastures on the heights of Luz, the Ardiden massif, which in winter is renamed the ski paradise Luz-Ardiden. Perhaps all this beauty here will prompt you to have a drink on a terrace with a view.
Then you gradually get close to the end point Arrens, which has merged with the village of Marsous. Both villages used to be known for their flax production, but now the main tourist attraction of Arrens-Marsous is the Val d'Azun ski area.

Occitanie
About this region
Occitanie (French pronunciation: [ɔksitani] (listen); Occitan: Occitània [utsiˈtanjɔ]; Catalan: Occitània [uksiˈtaniə]), Occitany or Occitania (), is the southernmost administrative region of metropolitan France excluding Corsica, created on 1 January 2016 from the former regions of Languedoc-Roussillon and Midi-Pyrénées. The Council of State approved Occitanie as the new name of the region on 28 September 2016, coming into effect on 30 September 2016.The modern administrative region is named after the larger cultural and historical region of Occitania, which corresponds with the southern third of France. The region Occitanie as it is today covers a territory similar to that ruled by the Counts of Toulouse in the 12th and 13th centuries. The banner of arms of the Counts of Toulouse, known colloquially as the Occitan cross, is used by the modern region and is also a popular cultural symbol. In 2015, Occitanie had a population of 5,839,867.

25 Magnificent trails in France
This MRA route collection contains 25 beautiful motorcycle routes in different parts of France, such as the Ardennes, the Alsace, Vercors, the Drôme, the Ardèche, Cote d'Azure, Gorges du Verdon, the Ariège, the Dordogne and Brittany.
The routes have been carefully created by Bert Loorbach, who is an enthusiastic motorcyclist himself. He lived in France for a year and a half, during which time he devoted himself to mapping the unknown and beautiful back roads of France especially for motorcyclists.
The routes are bundled in the Motortourgids France part 1 of Kosmos publishing house and now also available in MyRouteApp.
I have taken over the routes in MRA and sometimes adjusted them slightly to make them even more interesting for the motorcyclist.

24 Magnificent trails in France
It is clear that France is one of the most beautiful and best touring countries. It offers an incredibly varied landscape with good roads and a pleasant climate. It is not for nothing that you see so many motorcyclists there. My previous collection of 25 routes in France (25 Magnificent routes in France) were based on the route descriptions from the Motortourgids France part 1 made by Bert Loorbach.
This collection of 24 routes comes from Motortourgids France part 2. In this collection, a difference has been made between approach routes and motorcycle tours in a certain area. The approach routes can also be used in combination with the routes from Motortourgids France part 1
The routes are sometimes slightly adjusted based on the tips that Bert Loorbach gives in his description, or because of another place to spend the night, or to reach the minimum length of 2 hours for the MRA Library. For each route, the review contains a more detailed description, including options to stay overnight or places of interest along the way, which are also indicated with a POI and if possible with a short description.
Two or more routes have been created for a number of areas, such as for Burgundy, Auvergne, The Alps, Tarn and Cévennes and Nord-Pas de Calais. These routes can be nicely combined in a multi-day trip.
