Route Summary
Located in the heart of Italy, Tuscany is one of the most beautiful regions in the country. This is a region for those who love natural beauty and genuine art of living, heart-warming hospitality and spontaneous pride. This is a compelling story written by the Medicis and Dante Alighieri, colored by Michelangelo and Botticelli. A region that cherishes its ancient treasures and preserves its harmony, which leads winding roads through wheat fields and vineyards, past Etruscans and Romans, Renaissance and Middle Ages. Those looking for the ideal mix of culture, art, history, nature and gastronomy will certainly find what they are looking for in Tuscany.
The sloping landscape offers you a variety of colors in green and yellow tones. And like everywhere in Tuscany, a range of culture and art is available on this ride.

RouteXpert Review
You leave in Montespertoli where you can rent a holiday home (airbnb). Shortly after the start you get a strade bianche shoved under your wheels for 3.5 km. Be careful because it is a winding and hilly stretch.Certaldo consists of the more modern lower town and the higher situated medieval village (Alto).
To visit the old Certaldo it is best to park in the Piazza Boccaccio and take the funicolare up there. This little train / cable car takes you to Certaldo Alto in a few minutes. This historic part consists of a main street (Via Boccaccio) where various small shops and bars are located.
The main street leads to Palazzo Pretorio, a beautiful building with parts dating back to the 7th century. From this building, the city and its surroundings were governed.
You will also find the church Chiesa dei Santi Jacopo e Filippo, inside you will find beautiful frescoes.
San Gimignano is a medieval walled town. San Gimignano is known for its fourteen towers that dominate the silhouette of the city. These were built by wealthy families between the 12th and 14th century. The towers served as a home and fortification, but mainly as a prestige object. At its height, the city had 72 towers. San Gimignano is one of the best preserved medieval towns in Tuscany, making it one of the busiest.
You can stop for a while at the castle in Castelfalfi. The castle was given to the Bishop of Volttera in 1139 and was assigned to San Miniato in 1230 and later passed to Florence. During the Renaissance period, the castle, situated on a rocky outcrop overlooking the valley of the Roglio River, underwent several renovations. These renovations continued until the castle was converted from a military-style building into a villa. The estate in Castelfalfi has recently been restored and is now used as a residence for tourists. You have a nice view of the surroundings.
A little further you will be treated to a short stretch of strade bianchi. But it continues to fully enjoy the beautiful landscape.
This route receives 4.5 stars. The roads are excellent. There are 2 stretches of strade bianche, but with the necessary caution, these can also be driven well. You drive through a varied landscape with beautiful views. Culture and nature are amply covered on this ride.
