RouteXpert Review
This route in beautiful Sardinia starts in Terralba and leads through the interior on winding and often very narrow mountain roads to Nuoro. The route is approximately 173 kilometers and can easily be done in a day. A few stops are planned along the way to enjoy the beautiful scenery and sights.

We start the tour at the Q8 gas station in Terralba. After about 15 minutes, the Nuraghe sa Domu Beccia is on the left; you might be able to see a glimpse of it among the trees and bushes. It's a complex collection of towers built in Sardinia during the Bronze Age, with unique architecture. Bastions with six towers surround the central tower and its courtyard. In the courtyard, you can see the opening of a well, while around the nuraghe are the remains of a settlement, surrounded by a wall with towers for protection. Unfortunately, there's only a small parking lot at the entrance where you can safely park.

We take the scenic SS442, which winds through beautiful scenery with stunning panoramas and many bends to Laconi, where we visit the Parco del Castello di Laconi. In this park, you can stretch your legs and enjoy the beautiful scenery and the ruins of the Laconi castle. Archaeological excavations and wall stratigraphy have made it possible to identify interventions from various periods. Next to a tower-like structure stands the actual palace, which has been the residence of the Aymerich family, Marquesses of Laconi, since the 17th century. It consists of a large, rectangular room with a series of Gothic-Catalan arched windows. The view is truly magnificent. There is a large parking lot at the edge of the village, from where it is only a few minutes' walk to the park.

After this stop, we continue on the SS128, another fantastic road for motorcyclists: smooth asphalt, plenty of curves, and over two lanes wide, offering stunning panoramic views. Absolutely fantastic! We make a quick stop in Sogono for a delicious pizza.

After lunch, we continue our journey via the SS128 and drive past the large Lago di Gúsana reservoir, via Gavoi, to Orani. The lake was built in the 1930s to store water for an electricity generator (centrally located in Coghinadordza), and it included an old Roman bridge and an ancient Nuragic archaeological site. It is now a tourist destination. Along the way, there are opportunities to stop and enjoy the view of the reservoir.

In Orani, you can visit the Nivola Museum, a museum dedicated to the work of Costantino Nivola within the broader context of contemporary art, landscape, and living traditions. The museum was founded in 1994, a few years after Nivola's death, and has been expanding ever since. The permanent collection contains over two hundred sculptures, paintings, and drawings by Nivola, who played a unique role in 20th-century modernism as an artist who collaborated closely with architects. Find a parking spot; it's a short uphill walk; follow the signs for "Museo Nuvola."

As you leave the town of Orani, you'll see the ruins of the Chiesa di Sant'Andrea on your right. These are the ruins of the church of Sant'Andrea di Bovarizia, built by Benedictine monks around the thirteenth century and abandoned at the end of the sixteenth century following a landslide in the area where it once stood. The remains of the church are built of stone blocks.

We continue along the SS128, which merges into the SS129, to the end of this beautiful journey in Nuoro, the birthplace of several famous artists, including writers, poets, painters, and sculptors. It is home to some of Sardinia's most important museums. It is considered a major cultural center of the region and is sometimes called the "Athens of Sardinia." There are several hotels where you can stay overnight.

This route features beautiful roads, panoramic views, and some interesting sights for enthusiasts. I rate this route 4**** stars.
