Route Summary
As the name suggests, a tour on one of the Zeeland islands. This is the 34th in a series of 43 Endangered ANWB routes. These have been published in the Promotors between April 2015 and September 2016.
My 34th review of a route that I did not make and did not drive (yet). I checked all route points and placed them neatly on the road. I have also set the starting point and end point of the route a bit further apart to avoid navigating directly to the end point.
At route point 55 (Green) is the monument HOUEN BOYS!
Finally, I made the route the same for TomTom, Garmin and MyRoute-app Navigation users.

RouteXpert Review
This route combines a wide variety of Zeeland landscapes and sights. Wide beaches, high dunes, spacious seascapes, hydraulic structures, wide polders, winding inner dikes, historic towns and ancient villages. The ride takes you past Goes. For centuries this has been the most important place for Zuid-Beveland, the fruit region of Zeeland. And also Nisse. The heart of an environment with meandering flower dikes, hollow pastures, drinking pools and hawthorn hedges. After the beautiful historic cities of Middelburg and Veere you drive through the spacious polder area of Noord-Beveland, with its narrow dike roads and bird-rich inlays. Because I have not (yet) driven this route myself, I have rated this route with 3 stars!
De Zeeuwse Bolus:
The Zeeuwse Bolus is a sweet / cake roll made of soft white bread dough covered with brown sugar and a hint of cinnamon. During baking the brown sugar melts into a delicious sugar syrup around the bolus. It is a typical Zeeland regional product but is certainly also eaten outside the Zeeland provincial border.
KEEP BOYS!
The monument "Keeping Boys" is in memory of the 1953 Flood Disaster. Performed in bronze and depicting "the rolling wave, the floodplains and a human hand" and symbolizes the struggle of man with the water.
Is on the old harbor at Colijnsplaat. Also the cut-off (dyke passage) was restored in its original form in 1993 and the floodboards are again beaten up next to the denomination. The unveiling of the monument was made on August 6, 1993 by the still living rescuers of yesteryear. The artist is Jan Haas from Vlissingen. JHC Haas was born October 26, 1942 in Jakarta (former Batavia).
Text bronze plate for the monument:

WITH THEIR BODY FORCE, VILLAGE RESIDENTS WERE HELD. THE WONDING WATERKERING IN ITS PLACE UNTIL A SHIP BEING ACHIEVED IN THE HARBOR ON THE KADE IN THE HARBOR WAS THE VILLAGE FOR OVERFLOWING
ON 6 AUGUST 1993 THIS MONUMENT WAS REVEALED TO REMEMBER THE DISASTER OF 1953. THE MIRACULOUS RESCUE OF THE COLINATE PLATE AND THE DUTCH ETERNAL FIGHT AGAINST THE WATER
The story behind "the legend of Colijnsplaat":
"In the night of 31 January on 1 February 1953 the Netherlands was hit by the Flood Disaster. Colijnsplaat is spared as if by a miracle. The old - now muted - port was still in full use and was in connection with the Oosterschelde. In that night the water rose so high that it was decided to place the floodboards in the denomination next to the former town hall. The water continued to rise. The waves hit the floodboards. The middle buttress could not handle the pressure of the water and began to show tears and "tear". Attending villagers (between 30 and 60) came to the aid and pushed against the planks and the buttress. Every time a big wave comes rolling from the harbor, they brace themselves to catch the wave blow against the shelves with their bodies. The water continued to rise to about 10 cm below the highest tidal level. After a few hours - when most of the men were exhausted and the courage was about to give up - unexpected help came from the port. The barge "Lead", which was in the harbor, was thrown by the sea on the quay, right in front of the denomination, as a result of which it was to serve as a breakwater. "
