RouteXpert Review
Day 2 of 5 Riding around AlabamaLeaving the history of Montgomery behind we head out onto more of Alabama’s back roads.
Quiet easy riding roads will pass by small farms and more churches than can be counted.
Crossing the Tallapoosa River at Tallassee before heading north towards to turn and cross it again before crossing Lake Martin on Our Children’s Highway
Lake Martin is a reservoir, formed by the construction of Martin Dam on the Tallapoosa River.
Continuing North to Alexander City and stop at Wellborn Musclecar Museum, adult charge $11. The Wellborn Musclecar Museum is devoted to the great American automobiles of the 1960’s and 1970’s, showcasing classics such as the Charger, the Roadrunner and the SuperBee, as well as the nation’s largest high-performance Dodge collection.
Leave ‘Alex’ City and venture north again to the Talladega National Forest for long sweeping roads through the trees.
A mix of roads with lots of curves and bends takes you over the Coosa River where we then follow a winding route to Oak Mountain State Park, $5 per adult to pass through
With the largest land-area, one of the widest varieties of outdoor activities of any state park, and its proximity to Birmingham, Oak Mountain is a perfect stop while traveling to and from the state’s largest city. Topping it all off is the park’s stunning physical landscape, which alone makes for an unforgettable experience.
The day ends on the outskirts of Birmingham for the night.
This is a real mixed day of great riding, muscle cars and wonderful scenery. I make it a 4 star day
