`The Boshuizen Motorcycle Tour`

The idea originated with Koen Boshuizen (the owner of the company of the same name), he wanted to organize an annual event in the form of a tour. In a few years, the young company has grown into a medium-sized company with many customers from a wide area. The company has grown considerably in a short period of time and is now located in the new building on the Barkstraat in Raalte.
Motorclub MC Freewheels specializes in creating beautiful routes, which are offered to its own members, motorcyclists from the area and of course to Koen Boshuizen's customers.

2022, this is already the third edition of this event.
The turnout is great, more than 200 registrations.
After a hospitable reception with coffee and a tasty snack, after registrations (most registrations go through the new site mcfreewheels.nl) the engines can be started. A beautiful route from the beautiful Salland towards the Gelderse Achterhoek.
Not many sights are included in this route, it is just nice to enjoy the beautiful roads and views.
There are many beautiful steering roads in the regions of Twente and the Achterhoek. I would like to share this with you. In Borculo there are possibly a few museums, including:
1. The Fire Brigade Museum:
The largest fire brigade museum in the Netherlands in terms of collection, it has its origins in the fact that in 1956 a few hand pumps were found in an attic in Borculo, which had been hidden there during the Second World War. More than 10 years later, some members of the volunteer fire brigade conceived the plan to found a museum.

2 The Crystal Museum:
The Crystal Museum in the Gelderland town of Borculo in the municipality of Berkelland has a large collection of crystals, minerals, gemstones and fossils. This museum is housed in the former town hall of Borculo and is managed by the Geologisch Centrum Nederland Foundation.

During this tour you will also pass the Twente Canal several times. This canal was dug in 1930 for a better supply of raw materials for the Twente textile industry (raw cotton) and for the supply of coal from the Limburg mines.

If you come in the vicinity of Winterwijk, it is in any case recommended to stop at a quarry.
The quarry in Winterswijk, near the hamlet of Ratum, is an opencast mine where mainly limestone is extracted. The quarry has been in use since 1932, by the NV Winterswijkse Steen- en Kalkboerderij, now part of Sibelco. One of the three quarries is still in use.

For lunch we chose to stop in Meddo.
Meddo is a church village in the municipality of Winterswijk in the easternmost part of the Achterhoek in the province of Gelderland. The village is officially designated as a hamlet, making it the largest hamlet in the municipality of Winterswijk, with more than 1500 inhabitants and an area of 28.25 km².

After lunch we can drive again towards the beautiful landscape of the National Park, De Sallandse Heuvelrug.
The Sallandse Heuvelrug is Overijssel at its highest. This area between Holten and Nijverdal, which consists of forest and hilly heathland, is almost un-Dutch with its height differences and views. It is spacious, open and very quiet. There are no major roads nearby and neither are cities. The silence of the undulating Sallandse heath is contagious.

The landscape is mysterious. When you wander over the deserted paths of the Sallandse Heuvelrug, you will see whimsical oaks, white birches and ancient juniper bushes. Then you can well imagine that the inhabitants of Salland used to see ghosts, haunted hares and white women in this. Especially if it is a bit foggy, you will still believe in it yourself (source Staatsbosbeheer).
From Nijverdal it is still a short distance to end up at our departure point in Raalte.
Here we are awaited by the organizers to provide everyone with a delicious snack. It was another beautiful day, a nice ride and everything was well organized!
