RouteXpert Review
This trip is based on the routes that Marc Telkamp drove in 2009 during his tour of the Czech Republic. The routes may differ from the original due to map changes and daily distances.

Soon after leaving Bergen (L), you will enter the motorway, since you have to go through the Ruhr area, and this is best done via the motorway. Not very exciting, but good mileage. After about 200 KM you leave the motorway behind you for the time being and you will take a short drive to Diemelstadt. Here you can refuel and eat and drink something at the nearby McDonalds. After the refueling stop, it will head towards Kassel, if you are lucky you will see the 530 meter high Hercules Monument. The imposing statue that watches over the city. You can choose to stop in Kassel, or continue to Neu-Eichenberg, where the next stop is planned at Gasthaus Waldmann. After the stop, it continues towards the end point in the Harz. The surroundings are getting more beautiful, the roads are good and the height differences are clear. Refuel in Nordhausen and then enter the Harz via the town of Ilfeld.

The Harz is the northernmost low mountain range in Germany. The highest mountain is the Brocken with 1,142 meters, which belongs to the Harz National Park. This national park covers about ten percent of the mountain range. The Harz has traditionally been an important mining area

In Sorge, part of the former iron curtain has been preserved. Since the autumn of 2009, a small border museum with various artifacts from the Cold War has been added to the freely accessible open-air museum. A path with 10 information boards, remains of the border fences, a border column, a B tower (the last 14 lookout tower in the Harz Mountains), a weir and an earth bunker illustrate the border security system. Also the MRA Iron Curtain Trail, passes through Sorge, so if you are going to ride this route, you can also say "I did part of the MRA Iron Curtain Trail"!

You can read more about the MRA Iron Curtain Trail via the url below the review.

Despite the large number of highway kilometers, I rated this route with 4 stars.

Castle Route Burgenstrasse from Mannheim to Bayreuth
The Burgenstrasse is a well-known historic autoroute through southern Germany. This beautiful route goes over 1200 km through (mainly) the federal states of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. The route once continued for another 400 kilometers in the Czech Republic. These routes are not in this collection.

The route passes more than 80 castles, fortresses and noble residences. This route collection takes you past all these castles and even more sights. Stops have been made for the most beautiful sights. Enjoy the gentle slopes, sweeping views and of course the beautiful castles and historic towns and cities that you will visit along the way. Tip: treat yourself to an overnight stay in a castle! Several castles on the route have been converted into hotels.

Of course you can also drive the routes without seeing sights, then you will be able to drive more routes in 1 day. The routes connect to each other. The routes are made from west to east, but are of course easy to turn around. The routes are each between 100 and 200 kilometers long (between 6 and 8 hours, depending on how many stops you make and how long you stop) and contain the castles as waypoints, some photos and websites and especially many tips for stops along the way.
