The route is a mix of provincial roads and small country roads through various national parks and forests. Keep in mind that the roads in Drenthe are mainly made of cobblestones so good suspension is a must, certainly not a route to ride on a Hard-Tail.
The Drenthe landscape is a mix of heathland and forests, so it is beautiful to drive in spring, summer and certainly also in autumn, when the leaves of the trees change colour. On the way, watch out for crossing wildlife.
There are several small war memorials along the route where you can make a short stop, some of which are included as a route point.
Camp Westerbork is definitely worth a visit. The museum of Camp Westerbork tells about life in the camp. Original film footage from 1944, a partially furnished barrack, a last farewell thrown from the train, a large model of the camp, a drawing of playing children and many other objects give an image and a feeling of this historic place.
Visit the beautiful open-air museum Ellert en Brammert and discover how the inhabitants of yesteryear lived and lived. History is brought to life here in a unique and interactive way, giving visitors of all ages a special experience. The museum offers a wide range of activities and attractions. The museum houses 29 historical objects, of which the sod hut is an iconic symbol of the primitive living conditions of the past.
Along the route you will pass several Drenthe villages with cafes, restaurants and snack bars where you can take a break and have lunch.
