Route Summary
Route along the coast from Malmö to Karlshamm: the southernmost part of Sweden, province of Skåne. Along beaches and harbors. A nice first introduction to the beach life of Sweden. The route largely goes along the sea and the coast is clearly different here than in the Netherlands. No high dunes and forests. Especially flat land with views and a lot of wet nature towards the sea. The roads are excellent even though the route takes the smaller roads where possible.

RouteXpert Review
The route starts at the campsite with a view of "the bridge": from Denmark to Sweden. Beautifully lit in the evening, spectacular to see during the day. Take a short walk to the harbor before heading out. Also nice, but a little further away is the new residential area on a landscaped island Ön. If you want to explore Malmö on your own, visit the center with the Malmöhos castle, look around the Stortorget or take a boat trip through the water around the center. The castle was also built by the Danes.A Viking village has been recreated near Skanör: Foteviken. Nice to have a look (RP3). On the Skanör peninsula (RP4) you can take a look at the beach. It looks a bit like the Wadden: a green lagoon with dunes and the beach behind it. There are also wooden beach houses. The Falsterbohus castle is a ruin of a small castle. Little is left. The shape is still clearly recognizable and the foundation is still standing. Another ruin is located on the west side of the island. There it is also nice to walk through nature.
Trelleborg (RP6) is a typical small port town. There is not much to do. Some shops and ice and fishing places. A water tower with a cafe in it. And of course a museum about the town. We did not go into it. The harbor is nice: many ferries still leave for Germany, but also Lithuania.
Just before Smygehamm you can stop at Smygehuk: the most southerly place in Sweden (RP8). There is a small harbor there and a nice place to relax, have something to eat or drink.
After this we make a short detour along Charlottenlunds castle (RP9). A beautiful country house in a green oasis. A bit of gravel after that, easy to drive (RP10).
We continue to Ystad (RP11). Another city with its own detective series (Wallander). And therefore also known for its blue pastry from Fridolfs konditori. It has a nice center with many wooden houses and ... an art museum and a former monastery with a historical museum.
You will then arrive at Käseberga (RP12), where you can visit the ship-shaped monolith "Ales stenar". A nice place because you also have a beautiful view over the sea. When we were there, the grass was red with poppies. In Sandhammaren (RP13) you can go to the beach via a nice road. On the beach you walk on boards, because of the wet sand there. There is a small wooden house with a view and a kiosk that appears to be open at times.
We drive to a car museum in Simrishamn with a special collection, by Nisse Nilsson (RP14). You can see cars, but also motorcycles, scooters and even planes. Here in Simrishamn you can also have a great lunch, by the sea at Röken by Sonesson or simply on the beach in the beach pavilion: freshly smoked fish! You can also take a boat from Simrishamn to Bornholm island (Denmark) and drive a route there. There is a route on MRA about Bornholm, and it is very worthwhile (I made it ...).
After this we drive through some nature parks and go over gravel at Gyllebo (RP15-RP16).
A lot further on at Bromölla is a campsite "Strandängens Camping & Vandrarhem" (turn left at RP19). It is located on a lake but with industry and a major road nearby. Here you can spend the night, or you can drive another 45 kilometers towards Karlskrona.
If you drive on, you will pass a tiny museum: Ängabacken Lantbruksmuseum (RP21). It is not clear whether it will still open. They seem to have some very old motorcycles there.
After a possible visit to the museum, we continue to the end of this ride. Here you can choose from two campsites to stay overnight. Camping 1 Lägerplats Åkroken (RP22) in Mörrum is located on a river and is not a real campsite with facilities, but a wonderful place to camp. In terms of restaurants, you are limited to pizzerias and fast food. Or you cook something yourself. A little further in the harbor town of Karlshamm is camping number 2 Kolleviks Camping (RP24), which is beautifully situated on the bay, with a beach and a harbor. Several restaurants can be found here, such as Suki Sushi and Carlmans.
The route gets 4 stars from me. It is a beautiful area with good roads, but a bit of dull landscape at times. Despite there is a lot to see.
