Route Summary
This route is a dream for every motorcyclist who loves a mix of long bends, rolling hills and beautiful views. From the Netherlands you can easily drive south, where the real adventure begins in Belgium. From there you meander through the vast nature of Wallonia and the rugged landscape of the German Eifel, to finally end up in the romantic Moselle valley. Along the way you pass impressive castles and landscapes that seem to be made for motorcycling. And the icing on the cake? Hairpin bends that make your motorcycling heart beat faster and that put your riding skills to the test.

Because of the diversity of this route I rate it with 5 stars.

RouteXpert Review
The route starts off easy: while your engine warms up for the real work, you leave the inhabited world behind you. Once you cross the border into Belgium, the landscape starts to change. Green hills, dense forests and now and then an open plain with a view of the valleys. This is the perfect warm-up before the party really starts: the Ardennes and the Eifel.

If you are a motorsports fan, you should stop here at the Francorchamps circuit. No racing, but a look at this legendary asphalt where Formula 1 cars and motorcycles test their limits.
You can get a guided tour with an expert guide on a few days a year, who will give you a look behind the scenes. You can also drive a lap around the circuit yourself on some days a year, but of course that comes with a price tag. The guided tour was €15 per person in 2025 and one lap around the circuit will cost you €135.

As soon as you enter Germany, the asphalt changes. The roads become narrower, the bends sharper and the landscape rougher. This is where you really get a feel for what motorcycling is: the perfect combination of speed, control and enjoying the surroundings.
The first stop in Germany is Schlossheck, a small village you drive through on your way to the historic town of Schönecken. There you feel like you are back in the Middle Ages, with old buildings and a friendly atmosphere. Not much later, the first castle ruin appears: Burg Seinsfeld, a sturdy fortress that once protected the region.

Further south, you pass through picturesque villages and the road winds along rolling fields and forests. In Bruch, there is another imposing castle: Burg Bruch, which still looks impressive with its thick walls and towers. This is a perfect place to take a short break and soak up the atmosphere of the region.

From Salmtal the landscape becomes more open and after a few wonderful kilometres you reach the Mosel valley. This is motorcycling at its best: wide bends, beautiful views and roads that invite you to give that little bit of extra gas.

Along the river you will pass through charming wine towns, to finally arrive in Bernkastel-Kues, one of the most beautiful towns on the Moselle. This town, with its half-timbered houses and winding streets, is perfect for a longer stop. Here you can enjoy a cup of coffee or, if you don't have to drive anymore, a good glass of Moselle wine. Above the town towers Burg Landshut, an old castle with a panoramic view over the river. To enjoy that view, park your bike in the parking lot and walk a short distance.
After Bernkastel-Kues the route continues into the hills and you feel how the road becomes more and more challenging. The route ends in Hoxel, in the middle of the nature of the Hunsrück.

Why you should drive this route
From motorway to winding mountain roads, this route has it all. Especially in the Eifel and around the Mosel you will encounter fantastic hairpin bends. Along medieval castles, historic towns, beautiful nature, rivers and vineyards, you will be amazed.

The route includes a number of places for a drink and a bite to eat for yourself and your motorbike, are you obliged to stop here? No, of course you can also determine your own stops.
You end the route at the hotel reception and enjoy a snack and a drink while reflecting on today's route.

About this region
Limburg (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈlɪmbʏr(ə)x] (About this soundlisten)) is the southernmost of the 12 provinces of the Netherlands. The province is bordered by the province of Gelderland to the north and by North Brabant to its west. Its long eastern boundary forms the international border with the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. To the west is the international border with the similarly named Belgian province of Limburg, part of which is delineated by the river Meuse. The Vaalserberg is on the extreme south-eastern point, marking the tripoint of the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.

Limburg's major cities are the provincial capital Maastricht (pop. 121,565[5]), as well as Venlo (pop. 101,603) in the Northeast, and Sittard-Geleen (pop. 92,661) and Heerlen (pop. 86,832) in the south. More than half of the population, approximately 650,000 people, live in the south of Limburg, which corresponds to roughly one-third of the province's area proper. In South Limburg, most people live in the urban agglomerations of Maastricht, Parkstad and Sittard-Geleen.

The 10 most beautiful car and motorcycle routes in Limburg
Limburg, who thinks of Limburg, thinks of flan, coal mines, marl and the hill country. The coal mines have been closed for almost 40 years, the last load of coal was brought up from the Oranje-Nassau coal mine in Heerlen on 31 December and, as they say, South Limburg was transformed from Black to Green and unfortunately there is still little left. view of this period.

But not only pie, marl and coal in Limburg, but also a very beautiful province to tour by car or motorcycle and enjoy all the beauty that the province of Limburg has to offer. For this, the MyRoute app RouteXpert has put together a Top 10 of Car and Motorcycle routes for you.
