RouteXpert Review
This route over the island of Tenerife can be driven all year round due to the beautiful dry climate and is suitable for driving by motorcycle, car (preferably convertible), quads or bicycle. The start and end point is in Playa de las Américas and the route is approximately 180 km and takes all day due to the many stops en route. Do not drive in the dark because the roads are hardly illuminated.
The roads are of very good quality, clean and mostly wide enough, so there may be some stones on the road, so beware. Along the way there are several points where you can stop to enjoy the spectacular view. Most points are indicated with a blue / white traffic sign with a camera on it. Several are included as a route point in this route.
The landscape is a mix of fantastic mountain landscapes, bare plains with lava rocks, pine forests and sometimes desert-like plains with cacti. There are many ascents and descents and the roads contain many (hairpin) curves. Experience is therefore desirable.
The route takes us via the east side of the island to the National Park of El Teide, this is the largest park in the Canary Islands, is a geological treasure and a true natural wonder. The volcanoes, craters, crater pipes and lava flows form impressive and colorful formations. Las Cañadas del Teide surprises with its variety, disturbing, petrified lava rivers, impressive, eroded rock formations and colossal dimensions. In the spring, on the other hand, the park looks like a flower garden full of soft and unique aromas.
The national park of El Teide is a place where various film recordings have been made, such as Star Wars, Planet of the Apes, The Fast and the Furious 6, Shawshank Redemption, Clash of the Titans.
There is the possibility of taking a cable car to the top of El Teide for a spectacular view.
Along the way there is a possibility to drink and eat something, but it is advisable to bring enough drinking water.
Renting a motorcycle can be done at different rental companies, you must be at least 30 years old and have a driver's license that is at least 2 years old.
There are several types for rent from scooters, light engines, tour machines, adventure bikes to heavy Harley's. The prices vary from € 40 for a 125cc scooter to € 180 for a Harley-Davidson. The prices generally include the required insurance and unlimited mileage, helmets, jackets and gloves. The engines are often equipped with a mount for a GSM so you can navigate this route with Navigation, it is advisable to take a power bank with you because there is not always a USB present on the rental engines.
We had rented a Harley-Davidson Road King at Canary Island Rides. This rental company also provides guidance or as a passenger you can ride with the owner and discover the most beautiful places of the island.
I rate this route with 5 stars because of the beautiful landscape and the beautiful roads.
