The route starts in Tilburg at the parking lot of the “Natural” garden center.
Tilburg or “Kruikenstad” as this large city is called during carnival. Traditionally a textile city, but over time it has grown into a city with much more to do than just industry. To give an example, the old NS complex has been transformed into a railway zone where the old buildings have been given a new purpose and a contemporary design is the result. It's wonderful how old and new come together here
You drive towards 's-Hertogenbosch via the small roads.
You could visit beautiful sights in 's-Hertogenbosch. A beautiful city center, a tour of the canals, the defense line, St. John's Cathedral and many other places.
But you don't go to the provincial capital itself because it's not much fun driving. You can go around it and drive north via the polder roads.
If you are near the villages of Engelen and Empel, you will encounter a few possible road closures.
Please note that you are not allowed to enter the Henriëttewaard between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM and between 3:30 PM and 6:30 PM from Monday to Friday.
Please note that you are not allowed on the Crevecoeur between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM and between 3:30 PM and 6:30 PM from Monday to Friday.
Please note that you are not allowed to enter the Empelsedijk between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM and between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM from Monday to Friday.
You still take these dike roads outside these times because they are too beautiful not to use.
The first ferry arrives in Lith. This small ferry ensures that you get to the other side of the Maas with dry feet. It is a paid ferry and the ferryman appreciates small change in cash. The Maas is one of the major rivers in the Netherlands.
Wijenburg Castle is a nice photo opportunity. The castle cannot be seen from the route itself. For a photo opportunity itself, you have to leave the route and drive to the castle.
The date of foundation of the castle is unknown. The oldest mentions date from 1178. From 1272 the estate was owned by various families who acquired it through marriage. Ultimately, the last owner Van Verschuer donated the castle to the Friends of Geldersche Castles Foundation in 1956.
Wijenburg Castle has been a monument since 1965. Nowadays the castle is used as a wedding and party location.
At the second ferry in Ingen there is also an opportunity to drink a nice cup of coffee and order a sandwich. While you wait for the ferry, enjoy your lunch.
The ferry is a paid ferry and you can pay with cash. This ferry connects the crossings of the Lower Rhine. The Lower Rhine is a Dutch river and the branch of the Rhine that, from Angeren, forms the continuation of the Pannerdensch Canal. At the Kandia pumping station, on the other side of Angeren, the Oude Rijn enters the area. Before the construction of the Pannerdensch Canal, this was the main course of the Lower Rhine. From Wijk bij Duurstede the main stream is called Lek and the old stream is called Kromme Rijn.
The journey continues through the beautiful Betuwe. The Betuwe is a region in the Netherlands. The region is mainly located in the southwest of the province of Gelderland and also includes a small part of the extreme eastern part of the province of South Holland.
In Veenendaal you will then arrive at Prattenburg Castle, an opportunity for a photo opportunity. The castle cannot be seen from the route itself, so you have to drive there.
Prattenburg is an estate and country estate on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug in the municipality of Rhenen near Veenendaal in the Dutch province of Utrecht.
The estate measures over 430 hectares, largely consisting of forest. On the estate there is a house built in 1887 with a castle-like appearance surrounded by a garden in the landscape style. It has been in the possession of the Van Asch van Wijck family since 1694.
A coffee stop has been planned at the Rotterdammer so that we can then drive the last part of the route.
Via the wooded area of the Loo state domain you then slowly move towards the end point of the route. In this case you end up at Camping de Stuurmanskolk. There is an excellent opportunity to eat or just have a drink in the adjacent restaurant, Eettapperij Bijsterbosch.
I rode this route in May 2024. The route has been checked by me and I have added the necessary POIs. It is a nice alternative to the highway route.

Limburg, who thinks of Limburg, thinks of flan, coal mines, marl and the hill country. The coal mines have been closed for almost 40 years, the last load of coal was brought up from the Oranje-Nassau coal mine in Heerlen on 31 December and, as they say, South Limburg was transformed from Black to Green and unfortunately there is still little left. view of this period.
But not only pie, marl and coal in Limburg, but also a very beautiful province to tour by car or motorcycle and enjoy all the beauty that the province of Limburg has to offer. For this, the MyRoute app RouteXpert has put together a Top 10 of Car and Motorcycle routes for you.
