Because there are many beautiful walking and cycling routes in Salland, I would like to share these with "the enthusiast".
This is a beautiful walking route in the hamlets of Helhuizen and Espelo (near Holten).
A nice educational walk that can be a feast, especially for families with children.
The rating for this walk can easily be defended with 4 stars.

Detail in nature
De Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park is Overijssel at its highest. This area between Holten and Nijverdal, which consists of forest and hilly heathland, is almost un-Dutch with its height differences and views. It is spacious, open and very quiet. There are no major roads nearby and neither are cities. The silence of the undulating Sallandse heath is contagious.
The landscape is mysterious. When you wander over the deserted paths of the Sallandse Heuvelrug, you will see whimsical oaks, white birches and ancient juniper bushes. Then you can well imagine that the inhabitants of Salland used to see ghosts, haunted hares and white women in this. Especially when it's a bit foggy, you start to believe in it yourself.
The walk initially takes you past the Monument to the raid of 14 October 1944. The monument consists of a large boulder with a bronze plaque and a black and white photo. Next to the boulder is a second smaller boulder on which a bronze plaque and two black and white photos have been placed. This in memory of three victims who were murdered by the Germans in the raid on October 14, 1944 during the Second World War.
The victims were Marinus Stevens, Resistance fighter Gerrit Jan Piksen and the Jewish person in hiding Maurits Bachrach.

If you follow the path to the left of the monument, there is a hiding hut from the 2nd World War on the right after about 500 meters. Where it is located is indicated by a sign. In this hideout hut, in the woods near Holten, several people were in hiding during the Second World War, including Dutch men who had fled the German Arbeitseinsatz.

You can see everything in and around the hiding hut because it is well maintained.
Of course you can also enjoy beautiful paths that run through the woods during the walk. In the fall, this walk gives an extra experience because of the beautiful and diverse mushrooms that are everywhere in the forest.
Without realizing it, you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings for miles.
If you walk in the last kilometers, you will pass the deep hell* where many walks and cross runs are held.
*Deep Hel / Grote Koningsbelt Zuid is a climb in the Overijssel region. It is 1.1 kilometers long and bridges 47 vertical meters with an average gradient of 4.4%. This climb scores 25 climbing points. The top of the ascent is 73 meters above sea level.
Finally back at the parking lot you can fully enjoy this beautiful walk.

The 10 most beautiful car and motorcycle routes in the Netherlands
These 10 routes in the Netherlands have been carefully selected, checked and made equal for TomTom, Garmin and MyRoute-app Navigation by a MyRoute-app RouteXpert. The 10 most beautiful motorcycle and car routes in the Netherlands are always a snapshot, and a personal opinion of the reviewer. This does not alter the fact that every lover of beautiful roads and interesting sights will enjoy these routes.
The ten routes are spread over 10 provinces, we only skipped Flevoland and South Holland. Interesting routes can also be found in the MyRoute app RouteXpert library, but we still want to stick to the 10 most beautiful and not the 12 most beautiful.
Enjoy the many fortresses and castles that are included in the routes, such as Fort Veldhuis in North Holland. But also take a look at the route southeast of Nijmegen and visit the impressive Canadian War Cemetery and Memorial. The route 'Overijssel in bird's eye view' includes the oldest house in the Netherlands and the route along the IJssel is probably the most beautiful piece of asphalt in the Netherlands.
This way there is something for everyone in this route collection. If you do not agree with these 10 routes, please send us an e-mail, indicate which route(s) should be removed and which route you would like to see instead. Maybe your route will be included in this collection of the 10 most beautiful routes in the Netherlands!
