RouteXpert Review
This route in the Vosges is the first part of a loop, which starts and ends at the well-known Moto-hotel Col de Bussang, located in the municipality of Bussang. The end point of this part is the excellent restaurant Auberge Gazon Du Faing.

If you haven't done so yet, you can refuel a few kilometres after the start in the village of Le Thillot. There is a supermarket Colruyt on the other side, where you can buy some provisions, including for a possible picnic.

Afterwards, the Col de Morbieux quickly follows and that will certainly not be the last climb. After a good hour, the coffee stop comes in Hotel-Bar Le Grisard in Le Haut du Tôt, a tiny village at an altitude of 827 m. Early in the ride, but due to the location of this hotel, the terrace with loungers offers a unique view while enjoying a drink. You can hardly pass this up. Moreover, the owners are very friendly and helpful people. Unfortunately, they do not have a website, Facebook page, etc... but all information can be found via Tripadvisor.

After 60 km we pass the Jardin de Berchigranges
At 650 meters altitude, an old quarry was transformed into a beautiful plant and flower garden. For twenty years, tons of granite and earth were moved and many trees were cut down to create this garden. There is also a nursery/greenhouse where visitors can buy plants. Garden and plant lovers can certainly stretch their legs there. For more information, please refer to the link below.

Barbey-Seroux is a commune in the Vosges department in northeastern France. This commune is known for Le Champ des Roches, a 400 by 40 meter area strewn with granite boulders, left by glaciers during the Ice Age. Can be a unique opportunity for a photo moment in a special environment. It is a bit of a walk to this attraction. To learn more about this natural phenomenon, take a look at the website of the tourist office (link below).

At the Col de Bonhomme (949 m) - a well-known name in cycling circles - there is a crossing in the route. So pay attention here, but the route continues straight ahead.

The Col de Bagenelles is (909 m) is next. Here you turn left onto the D148 and immediately join the Route des Crêtes. This has nothing to do with Crete, but means "route of the mountain ridges". The total length of this route is 89 km and it strings together some highlights of the Vosges. However, only a part of this route is included in the tour.

D148 is followed further via the Col du Pré de Raves, again the Col de Bonhomme, Col du Louchpach and Col du Calvaire. There is no shortage of Cols. Along the way you can enjoy the presented panoramas until lunch at Auberge Gazon du Faing. This restaurant is located right next to the route. The terrace offers a beautiful view of this typical Vosges environment. Local specialties are served for a very budget-friendly price.

Then part 2 can be started

More specific information about the Vosges can be found on the Vogezen.nl page.

About this region
Grand Est (French: [ɡʁɑ̃t‿ɛst] (listen); Alsatian: Grossa Oschta; Moselle Franconian/Luxembourgish: Grouss Osten;
Rhine Franconian: Groß Oschte; German: Großer Osten [ˈɡʁoːsɐ ˈʔɔstn̩]; English: "Greater East") is an administrative region in Northeastern France. It superseded three former administrative regions, Alsace, Champagne-Ardenne and Lorraine, on 1 January 2016 under the provisional name of Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine (pronounced [alzas ʃɑ̃paɲ aʁdɛn lɔʁɛn]; ACAL or, less commonly, ALCA), as a result of territorial reform which had been passed by the French Parliament in 2014.The region sits astride three water basins (Seine, Meuse and Rhine), spanning an area of 57,433 km2 (22,175 sq mi), the fifth largest in France; it includes two mountain ranges (Vosges and Ardennes). It shares borders with Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Switzerland. As of 2017, it had a population of 5,549,586 inhabitants. The prefecture and largest city, by far, is Strasbourg.
The East of France has a rich and diverse culture, being situated at a crossroads between the Latin and Germanic worlds. This history is reflected in the variety of languages spoken there (Alsatian, Champenois, and Lorraine Franconian). Most of today's Grand Est region was considered "Eastern" as early as the 8th century, when it constituted the southern part of the Francian territory of Austrasia. The city of Reims (in Champagne), where Frankish king Clovis I had been baptized in 496 AD, would later play a prominent ceremonial role in French monarchical history as the traditional site of the coronation of the kings of France. The Champagne fairs played a significant role in the economy of medieval Europe as well. Alsace and Lorraine thrived in the sphere of influence of the Holy Roman Empire for most of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and subject to competing claims by France and German over the centuries.
The region has distinctive traditions such as the celebration of Saint Nicholas Day, Christmas markets, or traditions involving the Easter hare in Alsace and Lorraine. Alsace-Moselle are furthermore subject to local law for historical reasons. With a long industrial history and strong agriculture and tourism (arts, gastronomy, sightseeing), the East of France is one of the top economic producing regions in the country.

25 Magnificent trails in France
This MRA route collection contains 25 beautiful motorcycle routes in different parts of France, such as the Ardennes, the Alsace, Vercors, the Drôme, the Ardèche, Cote d'Azure, Gorges du Verdon, the Ariège, the Dordogne and Brittany.

The routes have been carefully created by Bert Loorbach, who is an enthusiastic motorcyclist himself. He lived in France for a year and a half, during which time he devoted himself to mapping the unknown and beautiful back roads of France especially for motorcyclists.

The routes are bundled in the Motortourgids France part 1 of Kosmos publishing house and now also available in MyRouteApp.

I have taken over the routes in MRA and sometimes adjusted them slightly to make them even more interesting for the motorcyclist.
