Route Summary
Gear up for an epic Tennessee loop!
This ride is all about the asphalt, the curves, and that pure open-road freedom.
From the hotel, you'll point your front wheel North toward your first stops.
You can pull over at the Lenoir Museum of Early Americana to check out some cool local history.
Just across the creek, you’ll find the massive Norris Dam.
Hang a left and roll down to the banks of the Clinch River for a killer photo op with the dam towering behind you.
Further up the road, you'll pass the Veterans Memorial on your left before the real fun begins.
Get ready to lean it over—you're heading into a stretch of technical twisties that will demand your full attention and have you scraping pegs in the best way possible.
When you need a breather, take a right to visit the legendary Historic Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary. It’s a favorite stop for riders to grab a photo at the "End of the Line" or take a self-guided tour of the cells. From there, keep the rubber side down through the rural TN countryside until you hit Ruby’s Diner for some well-earned food break.
After lunch, a few more scenic local roads will bring you right back to the hotel.

This ride is scenic, exciting and educational. It gets 3 stars.

RouteXpert Review
Get ready for an exhilarating journey through the rugged heart of Tennessee!
Grab some coffee, fuel up, and set your sights North toward the legendary Devil’s Triangle.
This isn't just a ride, it’s an adrenaline-fueled exploration of East Tennessee’s rural mountains, featuring 1,000 feet of elevation change and the kind of tight curves and steep drop-offs that motor enthusiasts live for.

Before the "Triangle" tests your skills, take a moment to step back in time at the Lenoir Museum at Norris Dam State Park. You’ll find a fascinating collection of Early Americana curated over 60 years by Will and Helen Lenoir.
Will G. Lenoir, a passionate collector with a deep appreciation for the past, dedicated over 60 years of his life to preserving the treasures that embodied the hard work and ingenuity of a bygone era. With a heartfelt desire to ensure that the rapidly changing times would never erase the legacy of everyday life, he generously donated much of his collection to the State of Tennessee for permanent display.

Just down the road, witness the scale of the Norris Dam, a 265-foot concrete marvel.
The Dam, located on the Clinch River near Norris, Tennessee, was the first project built by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) between 1933 and 1936. The 265-foot-high concrete structure provides flood control, navigation, and generates hydroelectric power with a 132-megawatt capacity. The area is now a hub for recreation, including Norris Lake, boating, fishing, hiking, and the adjacent Norris Dam State Park.

As you head south on TN-116, keep an eye out for the Veterans Memorial commemorating all American soldiers who lost their lives in World War 1, World War 2, Korean and Vietnam Wars.
The road then swings North and the real challenge begins.
Sharpen your focus for the famous "twisties"—just remember to keep an eye out for the local wildlife!

Once you’ve conquered the curves, a unique piece of history awaits.
Pull off at the Historic Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary, a former high-security prison that housed historic prisoners like James Earl Ray, assassin of Dr. Martin Luther King, until his death in 1998.
The prison is also the only prison to have a natural wall, the side of the mountain, as one of the prison walls.

Whether you’re interested in its notorious former inmates or its imposing architecture, the tours are a must-see.

Finally, wind down with a scenic stretch back to Ruby's Diner for some well-deserved R&R. From juicy steaks and burgers to comforting mac 'n' cheese, it’s the perfect spot to swap stories before a relaxing ride back to your hotel.

Tennessee
About this region
Tennessee, officially the State of Tennessee, is a state in the Southeastern region of the United States. Tennessee is the 36th largest by area and the 16th most populous of the 50 states. It is bordered by Kentucky to the north, Virginia to the northeast, North Carolina to the east, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi to the south, Arkansas to the southwest, and Missouri to the northwest. Tennessee is geographically, culturally, and legally divided into three Grand Divisions of East, Middle, and West Tennessee. Nashville is the state's capital and largest city, and anchors its largest metropolitan area. Tennessee's population as of the 2020 United States census is approximately 6.9 million.Tennessee is rooted in the Watauga Association, a 1772 frontier pact generally regarded as the first constitutional government west of the Appalachian Mountains. Its name is derived from "Tanasi", a Cherokee town in the eastern part of the state that existed before the first European American settlement. Tennessee was initially part of North Carolina, and later the Southwest Territory, before its admission to the Union as the 16th state on June 1, 1796. It earned the nickname "The Volunteer State" early in its history due to a strong tradition of military service. A slave state until the American Civil War, Tennessee was politically divided, with its western and middle parts supporting the Confederacy and the eastern region harboring pro-Union sentiment. As a result, Tennessee was the last state to secede and the first readmitted to the Union after the war.During the 20th century, Tennessee transitioned from a predominantly agrarian society to a more diversified economy. This was aided in part by massive federal investment in the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and the city of Oak Ridge, which was established during World War II to house the Manhattan Project's uranium enrichment facilities for the construction of the world's first atomic bombs. These were dropped on Imperial Japan at the end of the war. After the war, the Oak Ridge National Laboratory became a key center of scientific research. In 2016, the element tennessine was named for the state, largely in recognition of the roles played by Oak Ridge, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Tennessee in its discovery. Tennessee has also played a major role in the development of many forms of popular music, including country, blues, rock and roll, soul, and gospel.
Tennessee has diverse terrain and landforms, and from east to west, contains a mix of cultural features characteristic of Appalachia, the Upland South, and the Deep South. The Blue Ridge Mountains along the eastern border reach some of the highest elevations in eastern North America, and the Cumberland Plateau contains many scenic valleys and waterfalls. The central part of the state is marked by cavernous bedrock and irregular rolling hills, and level, fertile plains define West Tennessee. The state is twice bisected by the Tennessee River, and the Mississippi River forms its western border. Its economy is dominated by the health care, music, finance, automotive, chemical, electronics, and tourism sectors, and cattle, soybeans, corn, poultry, and cotton are its primary agricultural products. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the nation's most visited national park, is in eastern Tennessee.
