Bridges and GorgesThis was one of the best days on our recent 2019 tour.
We have used lots of information from all over including some of the routes stored in the MRA libraries.
But linked together they just turned into a wonderful day of riding that seemed to have it all
Staying in a smaller town over the larger towns around did not give the same level of choice then it came to hotels. But we found a little gem in the Hotel Residence. Great evening meal and a good breakfast
We left the quiet French town of Nissan-lez-Enserune early an were onto the D-612 enjoying empty roads with great scenery.
That led us to the Haut Languedoc Natural Regional Park and the day got even better. Each corner delivered another vista that needed to be taken in, but not for too long as there was another one coming soon.
Stopping for coffee and cake we were ready to see what was delivered next...and what we got was Col de la Baraque de Bral.
Not a very long road but one that seemed to rise with each corner and it went up and up until we could see for miles. We were blessed with sunny weather and empty roads, just what this road was built for.
As we came down the other side we had to ride some motorway. And in reality when you are leaning over going up hill on a smooth empty motorway what is not to like for a quick blast?
Before too long the signs started to appear and as we rounded the corner the full size of the Millau Viaduct.
Blue skies highlighted the white of the bridge towers and parking in the viewing area you got to see the full magnificence of the feat of engineering.
Once you leave the viewing area you will come across a peage toll area. I think we paid about €5.60 at the booth for each motorbike
Leaving Millau we headed towards Cévennes National Park to see what was in store. And what was in store was Gorges du Tarn.
I think for road vs scenery this is maybe one of the best roads I have ever ridden. Yes there have been faster roads, yes there have been more technical roads.
But to cruise through in the sun, with your friends just riding through each of the never ending curves, looking up and down the gorges just makes it the perfect day.
Once we hit the N106 we thought we were in for a boring ride but the road just kept opening out in front of us and the countryside kept coming as we
turned off and headed north once again the mountain roads got narrower and more complex.
With the long day drawing to an end we spent the last hour just taking it easy along the D104 and then onto the N102 and into Montelimar
This day had it all and it is one day that I would happily repeat, I am not going to say it was the easiest days ride and others might not do it all in one day.
But we went from single track roads to motorway and everything in between, up and down inclines with wide open wine valleys mixed in.
Not something that would be as much fun in the rain but we were blessed with a warm dry day
I gave this 4 stars as it was a long day, and even though it was close to perfection there is always room for improvement.
We could have spent the whole day stopping and taking photographs as there was so much to see, but then we would have never ridden anywhere :)

This MRA route collection contains 25 beautiful motorcycle routes in different parts of France, such as the Ardennes, the Alsace, Vercors, the Drôme, the Ardèche, Cote d'Azure, Gorges du Verdon, the Ariège, the Dordogne and Brittany.
The routes have been carefully created by Bert Loorbach, who is an enthusiastic motorcyclist himself. He lived in France for a year and a half, during which time he devoted himself to mapping the unknown and beautiful back roads of France especially for motorcyclists.
The routes are bundled in the Motortourgids France part 1 of Kosmos publishing house and now also available in MyRouteApp.
I have taken over the routes in MRA and sometimes adjusted them slightly to make them even more interesting for the motorcyclist.

24 Magnificent trails in France
It is clear that France is one of the most beautiful and best touring countries. It offers an incredibly varied landscape with good roads and a pleasant climate. It is not for nothing that you see so many motorcyclists there. My previous collection of 25 routes in France (25 Magnificent routes in France) were based on the route descriptions from the Motortourgids France part 1 made by Bert Loorbach.
This collection of 24 routes comes from Motortourgids France part 2. In this collection, a difference has been made between approach routes and motorcycle tours in a certain area. The approach routes can also be used in combination with the routes from Motortourgids France part 1
The routes are sometimes slightly adjusted based on the tips that Bert Loorbach gives in his description, or because of another place to spend the night, or to reach the minimum length of 2 hours for the MRA Library. For each route, the review contains a more detailed description, including options to stay overnight or places of interest along the way, which are also indicated with a POI and if possible with a short description.
Two or more routes have been created for a number of areas, such as for Burgundy, Auvergne, The Alps, Tarn and Cévennes and Nord-Pas de Calais. These routes can be nicely combined in a multi-day trip.
