Route Summary
As the name suggests, a tour through Drenthe and a piece of Germany. This is the 14th in a series of 43 Endangered ANWB routes. These have been published in the Promotors between April 2015 and September 2016.
My 14th review of a route that I did not make myself and did not drive (yet). I checked all route points and placed them neatly on the road. I have also set the starting point and end point of the route a bit further apart to avoid navigating directly to the end point.
Finally, I made the route the same for TomTom, Garmin and MyRoute-app Navigation users.

RouteXpert Review
The area through which the route takes you introduces early medieval German towns and relatively young (peat colonial) villages. From the middle of the 19th century, Southeast Drenthe became the largest peat supplier in the Netherlands. From different directions an extensive system of main and side channels was dug.
The peat colonial villages are characterized by a rectilinear structure. The villages lie in a long ribbon along the - now often muted - channels.
Where the canal crosses a road, a village center has developed over time.
Typical peat colonial villages include Barger-Compascuum, Bucket-Compascuum and Klazienaveen. (Source: Promoter No. 05-2015).
Because I have not (yet) driven this route myself, I have rated this route with 3 stars!
ANWB (bedreigd) bord
