RouteXpert Review
This beautiful route in Sardinia is a series of winding roads that wind through the mountains and inland, offering stunning views and several interesting spots for a quick photo stop. The asphalt is in good condition, the roads are wide, and the traffic is light.

Before we leave, we fuel up the bikes, as we have over 300 kilometers ahead of us. We head south to Bari Sardo via the SS125, crossing the Pelau River on a beautiful little arched bridge. From here on, the road becomes more challenging, with beautiful curves and occasional sharp hairpin bends. We continue our journey on the SP11, a beautiful road with stunning panoramic views. Along this road, there are several small rest areas where we can stop briefly for a photo.

The first stop is a visit to the caves “Is Janas”, a legendary place with an enchanted cave with stalactites, stalagmites and rare wildlife, hidden by a waterfall.

The next (longer) stop is at Su Stampu 'e su Turrunu. You can park on the right side of the road and take a short walk to visit. This small masterpiece of nature is a cave with a waterfall and a lake. Su Stampu de su Turrunu is a unique cave carved into the Jurassic rock of the Tacchi, with characteristic steep relief created by the erosive action of water flowing into a small cave with a stream, su Longufresu, which then falls 16 meters into a pool and finally flows down into the valley below. Definitely worth the walk.

After this stop we drive again via a winding road to Aritzo for a delicious pizza at Ristorante Pizzeria Da Daddo.

We drive around the Lago di Gúsana reservoir, an artificial lake built in the 1930s to store water for an electricity generator (centrally located in Coghinadordza). It included an old Roman bridge and an ancient Nuragic archaeological site. It is now a tourist destination. Be sure to stop at the Punta Micheli Cugusi viewpoint for a short walk with stunning views over the reservoir.

We continue to the town of Gavoi, which is definitely worth a stop, stretch your legs, and have a bite to eat. Gavoi is a picturesque village in the heart of Sardinia, known for its traditional culture, crafts (such as the famous Fiore Sardo cheese and Barbaricini knives), beautiful scenery around Lake Gusana, and its rich history. The village is known for its charming, narrow streets and granite houses with flower-filled balconies.

We continue our journey via Ottanna, Dualchi, and Macomer to Pozzomaggiore, where we stop for a drink in one of the many charming cafés. After this short stop, we continue to Monteleone Rocca Doria, where the more adventurous among us can visit the Monteleone Rocca Doria Climb, where you can climb a rock. The sandstone rock rises to over 40 meters and is characterized by a large number of holds, both large and small. To date, there are over 60 climbing levels, from easy 5a to very demanding 7c+, offering both beginners and experts the opportunity to enjoy climbing. From the top, you can enjoy a magnificent view.

We continue along the beautiful Lago del Temo lake towards Villanova Monteleone, stopping along the way to visit the Necropolis of Puttu Codinu; these tombs are carved into the limestone rocks, and there are also some menhirs.

We drive along the Alghero promenade to Camping Village Laguna Blu, a 4-star holiday park in Fertilia, near Alghero in Sardinia, known for its location between the sea and a lagoon. It offers accommodations ranging from mobile homes to safari tents, and extensive facilities such as a water park, restaurant, supermarket, and sports facilities, ideal for beach and water sports enthusiasts.

This route is worth 5***** stars because of the beautiful winding roads and the sights.

Sardinia
About this region
Sardinia ( sar-DIN-ee-ə; Italian: Sardegna [sarˈdeɲɲa]) is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, after Sicily, and one of the 20 regions of Italy. It is located west of the Italian Peninsula, north of Tunisia and immediately south of the French island of Corsica.
It is one of the five Italian regions with some degree of domestic autonomy being granted by a special statute. Its official name is bilingual in Italian and Sardinian: Regione Autonoma della Sardegna / Regione Autònoma de Sardigna (English: "Autonomous Region of Sardinia"). It is divided into four provinces and a metropolitan city. The capital of the region of Sardinia — and its largest city — is Cagliari. Sardinia's indigenous language and Algherese Catalan are referred to by both the regional and national law as two of Italy's twelve linguistic minorities, albeit gravely endangered, while the regional law provides some measures to recognize and protect the aforementioned as well as the island's other minority languages (the Corsican-influenced Sassarese and Gallurese, and finally Tabarchino Ligurian).Due to the variety of Sardinia's ecosystems, which include mountains, woods, plains, stretches of largely uninhabited territory, streams, rocky coasts, and long sandy beaches, Sardinia has been metaphorically described as a micro-continent. In the modern era, many travelers and writers have extolled the beauty of its long-untouched landscapes, which retain vestiges of the Nuragic civilization.
