TT Circuit Assen
When you say Drenthe, you also say the TT van Assen, the TT circuit is the next stop to take a picture.
Continue through the province of Groningen, where you can stop for lunch at the Reitdiep in Zoutkamp. There are various options on the water.
After lunch you will head towards the Lauwersmeer National Park, which was declared a National Park on November 12, 2003. It is approximately 60 km² in size. After the closure of the Lauwersmeer in 1969, the high-lying seabeds became dry. Via Lauwersoog, almost the top of the Netherlands, you turn around the Lauwersmeer and enter the province of Friesland. And who says Friesland, says The Frisian Elfstedentocht, the tour of tours. Also of this tour is a photo moment in the route, namely the "Tile Bridge" in Gytsjerk.
The Elfsteden monument It Sil Heve was designed and realized by the visual artists Maree Blok and Bas Lugthart on the Kanterlandse bridge over the Murk. This is the last bridge on the Eleven Cities route where the skaters drive underneath for the last kilometers to the finish on the Bonke in Leeuwarden. It Sil Heve were the words with which in 1985 the first Elfstedentocht after 22 years was announced.
The bridge will be completely covered with thousands of handmade tiles, on which the portraits of skaters who once completed the Elfstedentocht have been printed in blue glaze. Over the past century, 16 tours have been completed, with thousands of riders crossing the finish line. In this way, they can have themselves immortalized on the Eleven Cities Monument with a (skating) photo, name and year (s) of the tour (s) they have completed.
Then you go via Leeuwarden to Zurich, just before the Afsluitdijk you can stop for a cup of coffee and to refuel. On the Afsluitdijk, 2 stops to take some pictures and enjoy the view over the Wadden Sea and the IJsselmeer.
Once on the other side of the Afsluitdijk you keep driving along the IJsselmeer to Medemblik, where the end point of this 2nd route is.
Book a room at Hotel Medemblik or at one of the campsites or B & Bs in the immediate vicinity.

The 10 most beautiful car and motorcycle routes in the Netherlands
These 10 routes in the Netherlands have been carefully selected, checked and made equal for TomTom, Garmin and MyRoute-app Navigation by a MyRoute-app RouteXpert. The 10 most beautiful motorcycle and car routes in the Netherlands are always a snapshot, and a personal opinion of the reviewer. This does not alter the fact that every lover of beautiful roads and interesting sights will enjoy these routes.
The ten routes are spread over 10 provinces, we only skipped Flevoland and South Holland. Interesting routes can also be found in the MyRoute app RouteXpert library, but we still want to stick to the 10 most beautiful and not the 12 most beautiful.
Enjoy the many fortresses and castles that are included in the routes, such as Fort Veldhuis in North Holland. But also take a look at the route southeast of Nijmegen and visit the impressive Canadian War Cemetery and Memorial. The route 'Overijssel in bird's eye view' includes the oldest house in the Netherlands and the route along the IJssel is probably the most beautiful piece of asphalt in the Netherlands.
This way there is something for everyone in this route collection. If you do not agree with these 10 routes, please send us an e-mail, indicate which route(s) should be removed and which route you would like to see instead. Maybe your route will be included in this collection of the 10 most beautiful routes in the Netherlands!
