RouteXpert Review
With the RegioRondrit Tubize you follow a route along the language border of Belgium right below Brussels. The start and end point is in Tubize (Tubeke), a small town in the province of Walloon Brabant and located in the part where French is the main language. Tubeke is the Flemish name for Tubize and is derived from Tubeke's old name Tweebeek, which refers to the confluence of the rivers Senne and Sennete (Zinnik). Keep in mind that along the way you will sometimes come across the Flemish and then the Walloon names for the same places.

The tour takes you along beautiful narrow roads through the region. You mainly drive through grain fields and meadows, which provide beautiful views. And in the meantime you will encounter surprising sights. A few stops have been included to refuel, have lunch or have a drink.
Drive and enjoy!

You leave from the parking lot in front of the Tubize Brasserie.
Just before Clabecq (Klabbeek) you drive past the former blast furnace site, a little further you come to the town of Braine-le-Château (Brakel Castle), which is worth a visit. You will find a working watermill from 1226, a bailiff's house, the castle of the Counts of Horne, a 16th century farm and a pillory from 1521 on the square. You will find the Braine link at the end of this review, where you will be presented with a walk through Braine.
Then you continue to Ittre, which is unfortunately regularly in the news because of the prison located there. There you will find Lock 5F, the gateway to the “plan incliné de Ronquières”. This is a set of locks and lifts to make the canal from Brussels to Charleroi navigable.
Continuing, you will return to the territory of Tubize. You drive past the (fish) ponds of Coeurq, complete with waterfall. This is a popular outing from Tubize; Looking for some peace and quiet here for a cup of coffee?
Then you turn left on the main road and leave this road on the right again towards Rebecq (Roosbeek).
A little further on to where you cross the River Senne, on your left is a still working medieval watermill, Moulin d'Hou, which is sometimes in operation.
Continue to the ring village of Steenkerque, where a battle raged between France and the rest in 1692, during which the village was damaged. St. Martin stands guard in the middle of the village
You approach Enghien (Enghien) with the appearance of a real town with many old houses. As befits a city, there is a castle with a park, a tapestry museum, a church and monastery and a forest.
A good time to have lunch.

After Enghien you cross the language border. Herne is located there in the region called Pajottenland. There are also many sights here: such as a Carthusian monastery, the St Peter and Paul Church, old water mills, a treadmill, as well as a farm from 1350. Noteworthy are the landscape cubes of Herne, which show the solidarity between the four residential areas of the 'Green Quadrant': Herne , Herfelingen, Kokejane and Sint-Pieters-Kapelle. Further along, past the castle and Ter Rijst park. It is now a hotel, but in the past was a renowned aristocratic location. as well as a filming location.
You approach the starting point in Tubize again via the countryside. There you will find the Musee de la Porte in a Spanish-style farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century. It houses the Museum of Archaeology, Art and History of Tubize. You can park close to your final destination, the Tubize brasserie, which is also a brewery and museum. If you want to take a break for a drink afterwards, you can do so here.
