This is the 29th in a series of 43 Endangered ANWB routes. These were published in the Promotors between April 2015 and September 2016.
Starting point: Pelle's food and drinks, Deurningen
End point: Pelle's food and drink, Deurningen
I awarded this route 3 ★★★ stars because the roads are very good, the landscape offers an exceptionally varied mix of coulisse landscape, rolling hills and stream valleys, and the attractions – from water tower to mill, observatory and river Dinkel – add a unique cultural layer.

You start at the Tour Start Point; Pelle's food and drinks in Deurningen, a gastronomic starting point with all the trimmings - including a microbrewery. From here you head into the Twente countryside, past Borne, Saasveld and Weerselo, where narrow roads, oak lanes and small farms set the pace. The first pearl appears quickly: the Tour Info Point; Water Tower of Ootmarsum. Not high, but the highest tower in the Netherlands. Built in the style of the Amsterdam School and strategically placed on the Kuiperberg - a beautiful view guaranteed. Via the forests of Agelo and Tubbergen you continue to the northeast. In clear weather this is a perfect place to stop for a moment and just watch. Near Lattrop you will come across the Tour Info Point; Cosmos Observatory. Not a classic attraction, but absolutely unique: here you will learn about planets, space and the sun. Whether you come for the technology or the view: it will be impressive anyway. A few kilometers further you will find the Tour Photo Point; Oortmanmolen – a classic octagonal smock mill that still turns. The mill is beautifully situated in the countryside, surrounded by eskers and farms. A beautiful image to capture.
And then: the Dinkel. At the Tour Info Point; River Dinkel you follow the course of this picturesque river through the Lutterzand nature reserve. The path meanders with the current, while your engine hums softly. Here you feel the silence - and the history of the landscape. Via Beuningen and De Lutte you make a large arc to Enschede and then back towards Deurningen. Along the way you can refuel at the Tour Fuel Point; Tinq, an unmanned station in a convenient location near Hengelo.
After such a rich route, the final part may be there: you end up again at the Tour End Point; Pelle's food and drinks, where you can look back on a ride full of stories with a good glass of beer or a cup of coffee.
The Sagenlandroute is a motorcycle ride for those who love landscape, peace and quiet, and places with a story. You ride on excellent asphalt, through quiet villages and along Twente highlights - literally and figuratively. Ideal for those who want to unwind on their motorcycle. Not a route for speed devils, but for enthusiasts. Let the legends of Twente guide you.
